Many people do not know that the type of detergent and routine used can greatly affect the life of cloth diapers and covers. In fact, certain chemicals can actually ‘un-glue’ the lamination from your waterproof products when used on a regular basis. The use of harsh detergents and/or additives can void the warranty on your diapering items, so please take care to follow the manufacturers’ care and use instructions.
Specific ingredients or additives to avoid for diapering items with laminate include:
Chlorine Bleach, Oxygen Bleach, Fabric Softeners
As a general rule, avoid additives or detergents that contain:
Fabric Softeners, Brighteners, Dyes, Chemical Fragrance, Chlorine Bleach, Oxygen Bleach, Washing Soda, and Borax
Our recommended detergents are:
Allens Naturally Liquid*
Country Save Liquid
Ecover Laundry Liquid
Mountain Green Free and Clear Baby*
Mountain Green Ultra Baby*
Nature Clean Laundry Liquid
Nature Clean Powder*
Planet Delicate Laundry Wash*
Planet 2X Ultra Laundry Detergent HE
Planet Ultra Powdered Laundry Detergent
* HE safe
For hard water, you may also use Calgon Water Softener as needed, along with your detergent.
