Last week I got my first pot of Thirsties Booty Love in the mail. I was eager to try it out, though I have to admit, diaper rash
hasn’t been a big problem for Cooper in his Thirsties. Little did I know that the very next day we’d have a nasty run-in with Rota-virus to put Booty Love to the ultimate test.
On Thursday afternoon, I left Cooper with my sister for a couple of hours while I took Lauren, age 6, to the dentist. She said he was crabby and clingy the entire time I was gone. Later that evening this uncharacteristic mood-change made sense. No matter what I tried, Cooper would not settle down that night. I finally gave up and brought him downstairs to snuggle in front of the T.V. Minutes later he was scrunching his legs up and crying in pain. Soon after he was passing gas and then had some very stinky diarrhea. I quickly changed his diaper. But it happened two more time in the next 20 minutes. At this point I thought he might have eaten something that didn’t agree with him. At each diaper change I smoothed some more Booty Love on his bottom. I only needed about one fingertip’s worth to cover both of his cheeks because when I rubbed it on his skin, it thinned out into a smooth, soft, melty texture. It even felt good on my dry hands.
Cooper thrashed, fussed and nursed all night and woke up the next morning with a temperature of 101. “Hmmmm,” I thought, “this was not caused by something he ate!” I immediately got online and started searching “infant fever diarrhea.” Rota-virus immediately popped up. Rota-virus is extremely contagious and most children get it at least once before they turn 5, the first case being the worst. Where could he have contracted it? Endless places: The gym daycare, from the grubby hands of his two school aged-sisters, or from sucking on the handle of the shopping cart. Each of the possibilities seemed as likely as the next and more important that figuring out how he acquired it was helping him get through it.
As luck would have it, Cooper was very sick all weekend when the doctor’s office was closed. His temperature got at high as 103 and he continued to have diarrhea several times a day and even vomited once. The poor guy. I was so thankful that the Booty Love kept the acidic diarrhea from irritating his skin–even when he pooped at night without me knowing. He slept in his dirty diaper for at least a couple of hours before I woke up and changed him, poor baby. But thanks to the Booty Love, his skin wasn’t even mildly irritated.
After being fever-free for a full twenty-four hours, Cooper broke out in a rash that covered both the back and front of his torso. Concerned that this was unrelated to the rota-virus and a new problem altogether, I called our pediatrician. The nurse informed me that a rash is often the last trace of a virus exiting the body and that is signaled he was no longer contagious. Phew. We had survived a full four days of the nasty rota-virus and thanks to Booty Love, without a sore bum to boot.

Good to hear that it survived the test! We haven’t needed it yet, but have it standing by!
My 11 year old had roto when he was about 15 months—we ended up in the hospital for 3 days with dehydration. I remember the awful rash–wish we had some booty love back then!
That is amazing! My son had a similar virus recently and we could have used some Booty Love. I’ll make sure to have some on hand next time!
I’ve heard nothing but good things about this stuff. I must try it!
I love Booty Love too!! It helps my daughter’s redness not turn into a rash!
Poor little guy! Glad it worked well, I might have to give this a try as I haven’t been too thrilled with most of the other cloth diaper safe creams that I have tried so far!
Oh, dear! Thank you for sharing your story with us. I’m going to be a first time mom in February and I worry about viruses out there. It’s good to know with some Booty Love, moms won’t have to worry about diaper rashes on top of everything else!
Thanks for the post. We have been battling diaper rash on and off for a while now with my little girl. I may have to give Booty Love a try.
I’ve got to try this for my baby’s diaper rash!
Glad you survived!
I love using the Booty Love to prevent diaper rash, thank goodness we have not dealt with diaper rash!
Thanks for the recommendation! It’s always nice to find a CD friendly creme.
Wow, that stuff sounds great! Thinking I need to try this out…
I’m excited to try this! My oldest has had diaper rash problems since 6 months and the only thing that seems to work is Desitin. I’m crossing my fingers that this will be the natural diaper cream that works for us!
I haven’t had any problems w/ diaper rash, not yet anyway. I would love to have some of this to keep on hand though, just in case.
Wow! That sounds awful! Sorry your baby had to go through that! Glad the Booty Love made a difference for you!
We’ve always used coconut oil, but it doesn’t stay on that long. Would love to try this!
The only ointment that we have used is the Baby Magic stuff – sounds like this is a better alternative, maybe one day I’ll get some.
Thanks for sharing your experience! I’m a first-time mom to a 9-month old, and it’s so hard figuring out what’s wrong sometimes when they have an “off” day. So far, ours have all been due to teeth, with no real sickness yet. I can’t wait to try Booty Love soon. My son reacts to coconut oil, which is in a lot of cloth diaper safe products, so I’m happy to see that there isn’t any in Booty Love!
I’m so glad there are products that don’t use harsh chemicals.
Thanks for sharing. We are trying to learn what works before we need to use it!
My daughter has really sensitive skin and has had diaper rashes in the past. If only I know about Booty Love then. I will be getting some
I think I may have to try this out. Thanks for sharing.
I wish I had known about this when my son was a baby! He had such horrible diaper rash. Our little girl seems to be faring much better, thankfully.
Been curious about this product. Sorry your little one had such a time of it. Good to know this product helped soothe him. I’m ready to try some!
I love diaper creams, they really are multi-purpose including eczema.
Thanks for sharing your story. I didn’t know about the end of virus rash. That’s very interesting.
Aww thanks for sharing! I’m wanting to try the booty love soon.
WOW!!! I’m pregnant with #2 and will be using cloth. I used disposables with my first and when he had rota-virus he had a TERRIBLE diaper rash. I tried several popular brands and none of them protected his little bum. I will have to give booty love a try!
Sounds like the ultimate test!
this looks GREAT-can’t wait to try it out!
Sounds like amazing stuff!! Love the name!
We don’t have a problem with diaper rash but my little girl does have acidic poo and and if she does not changed right away she will have a few red spots. I need to try this product!
Aww poor baby…I so hate those moments when babies do have diarrhea and it happens so often their poor little skin gets so irritated from the acid…happened to my baby (notthr virus) not too long ago…glad u had this at hand and that it truly worked!
Sounds like good stuff, I am going to order some just in case too. Thanks for the good review.
The information is hard to translate to a baby already prone to rashes because it is difficult to say whether Cooper WOULD HAVE a rash during the virus withOUT the Booty Love since he is not prone. My daughter has extremely sensitive skin, extremely. Too sensitive for disposables (which we were not planning to use except oocasional trips) and even more sensitive to disposable wipes (which we WERE planning to use). She is very prone to rash and yeast. After trying several over the counter remedies, Desitin was the only thing that worked. Fleece Liners became my best friend and I was incredibly hesitant to try cloth safe alternatives because of the failure of all other products. I relented finally and tried Booty Love plus one other. Booty Love does work better than I thought or expected, but still am debating if it is worth the price, it is soooo expensive especially for a Thirsties product when the company tries to make their products affordable
After reading this I MUST try it! We keep having to move to disposables when my LO has a rash, so this would be GREAT! Thanks for sharing! =)
Sounds like something I’d love to try in my household. I’ll bet it would work great on other skin rashes, irritations, burns, stings etc.
Its always nice to find a diaper rash cream that works well for baby and your cloth diapers.
Sounds great
I will have to give this a try. It might prevent us from having to us disposables when she has a bad rash.
Sounds so good I’ll have to get some!
We’re becoming foster parents and I plan to exclusively use cloth diapers. I know I need to get a cloth safe diaper rash ointment, so I have been looking at a few different ones. After reading this, I think I’ll try Booty Love! Thanks!
Thanks so much for posting this! My Son gets icky poos and rashes when he teeths
I would love to try booty-love. when my cj’s runs out ill be getting some!
This is on my diaper registry because I’ve heard such wonderful things about it!
Would like to give this a try on our teething diaper rashes
I think this will be on my next order!
oooh, i should pick some of this up! sounds like good stuff.
thanks!
I’m looking for a new cloth diaper safe cream. When my current tube runs out, I might have to try this!
Glad to hear this works so well! So far we’ve just been using coconut oil ’cause there don’t seem to be many good CD-friendly options. We’ll have to try it…
How does this compare to other CD creams? We use CJ’s and Grandma El’s, and I seem to see spots on some of my pockets and prefolds from those two creams. Wondering what you think of Booty Love compared to others.
I assume Booty Love is cloth-diaper safe (won’t cause repelling/buildup?)
I need to get some of this. my baby boy’s booty might benefit for this.
everyone is always talking about this stuff! i need to get some!
Good to know there is a product out there for those that cloth diaper! We have had two rounds with diaper rash and I have always gone back to disposibles until it cleared so I could use diaper rash cream…..now I don’t have to!
I have never tried this product, but sounds like I should in tne future!
Excited to give this a try! Love that I won’t have to give up the cloth diapers to treat my kid’s skin!
This stuff sounds great! I will need to try this!
I’d love to give this a try since I’ve heard it works so well! If only it didn’t have such a goofy name…
We just love the name of this stuff. My 3 year old gets “pimples” on her hiney from wearing a pull up at night and always asks for her booty love before going to bed now. Can’t say the name of this stuff w/out smiling!
I want to get this!
Sounds like amazing stuff! Would love to try it!
I can’t wait to try this product – I love Thirsties diapers, going to find some of this to order.
Aww. Poor thing!
Glad to hear the Booty Love stood up to the challenge, though!
If I didn’t already have 4 different jars I would probably buy this to try.
thanks for sharing!!! i would love to try this but with the 5 other types i have and the little that my baby gets rashes i dont think my husband would agree to more booty stuff
This sounds good. I want to try this ASAP! Great post.
I would love to try this!
I would love to try this!
I’m going to try to get some of this. My babies tend to end up with yeast rashes. I wonder if this would help. I’m already anticipating rashes since I’ll have to have a cesarean :b and the rounds of antibiotics just kill me and baby.
I will definitely be purchasing some booty love. Recently my baby had a rash and I had to put her in disposables for a few days so I could use my diaper rash cream, I really wish I would have had this then!
This is a product I’ll be ordering before baby #2 arrives!
Poor baby – I’m glad you both made it through alright.
can’t wait to try this product!
I have several baby balms and I always try them on myself since I have dry hands.
I will have to try this!
Looking forward to trying this! Thirsties diapers are my new favorites and I can’t wait to try more products
Makes me want to try some too. Atm, were switching back to sposies when lil man get red on his tushie. =(
Id love to get one of this!
This is definitely going on my “must try” list. I will have to try it on my dry hands as well.
I really love booty love as well! I’ve never had a problem with any sort of rash or irritation and I use this with every change!
I never realized until recently that diarrhea could cause diaper rash! Can’t wait to get some of this Booty Love, I always thought you had to use disposable diapers when you used any kind of rash remedy, but I am so happy to know this can be used with my cloth! Bravo!
I just switched from disposable to cloth a couple weeks ago. My 6 week old had diaper rash the seemed worse when using disposable. I ordered Booty Love and it cleared up after just a couple applications. I also thought, gee, this tiny container isn’t going to last long and for the price, yikes! But, I was surprise to find that you only need a tiny, tiny bit for it to work. LOVE Booty Love!!!
Oh goodness! Sounds terrible! I’m so glad you guys made it through all right. It’s nice to see a cloth friendly diaper cream.
I need to try Booty Love. It sounds great.
want to try so bad!
Booty Love is the second diaper cream we’ve tried and I think it’ll be the last! We love it.
Wow sounds like good stuff. Good for you for preventive measures.
I need this stuff!
Oh poor little guy! I didn’t know Thirsties made rash cream until now! Awesome! Thanks for such a great post!
I love that there is something you can use on cloth diapers even when the little ones have a rash. I hated the idea of using disposables during rash time!
I can’t wait to try this!
I NEED to find a diaper rash cream that’s safe for cloth diapers. I gotta get some of this!
i LOVE that this product contains oegon grape root, you just don’t see this in hardly any products. It’s great anti-fungal. Looking forward to trying this out one day and then sharing the “booty love”!
=D
I may just have to try this!!
The name is so cute! Can’t wait to try Booty Love on my little one.
I’ve been loving Earth Mama Angel Baby Bottom Balm, but I’ll have to give this a try now, too!
i would like to try this CD safe diaper cream
I have been looking for a new diaper rash cream! My daughter doesn’t get one often but the stuff I have does not work well for us and isn’t cloth safe, I will have to give this a try!
i’ll have to try this! rashes are the worst!
Don’t get rashes too often, but I would like to try this next time we do
Sounds great. We usually use Cj’s but would like to try this!
Can’t wait to try this one my LO
Wow, I really need to try this stuff…Now to go order some.
Hmm! Makes me definitely want to order this and give it a shot!
I need to try this! The “other stuff” hasn’t been working and my poor baby has a sore bottom today
There aren’t many cloth safe rash formulas on the market. I wish this was at retail locations and easier to get.
Sounds like you had the right product at the right time! I’m glad it worked so well. We are lucky that we don’t have rash issues.
Glad your LO is feeling better, and is diaper rash free too. I’m planning to order some soon!
I still need to try this!
I’ll have to try this!
Great for diaper rashes!!!
I’m thinking I really want to try this now, although with using cloth my little guy doesn’t get rashes often.
Elizabeth, I know this is an old post but any thoughts on how Booty Love compares to Grandma El’s, CJ’s or Grovia Magic Stick?
I was also curious… did your son get the Rotavirus vaccination?
This stuff lasts forever!
Awesome!!:)
I’ll have to try this.
Oh your poor baby! I have been contemplating trying this; this is a good enough vote for yes to me!
Have not yet had a rash that olive oil w/ a little tea tree oil mixed in couldn’t cure. But I keep this standing by in case of “The Big One.”
Thankfully Booty Love saved another headache for you after all that! Glad to hear.
Thank you for sharing this story!
i would love to be able to find this locally- living in quebec canada is nice but am finding alot of things like a cloth friendly diaper cream hard to come by.
So awesome. I’ll have to give it a try.
Way cool. Good to know. It’s next on my list to try.
I think this stuff would be great to try. I like using coconut oil as a diaper rash solution buy some babies are allergic to coconut oil. This might just be the ticket!
I would love to use this! I love all Thirsties products!
Our first baby is due in July and we are very excited to be planning for cloth diapering! We will be trying out Booty Love for sure! Ive read great things about it!
I am so sorry that you had to experience rota but i really appreciate your review. I am just starting to cloth diaper our third child and with prior children always slathered the A & D ointment with disposables. But now it makes me nervous to go without! I will be trying booty love with the third!!!
I recently tried this and I think it’s great too! Wish I’d found it sooner!
I am going to have to pick some of this up!
I need to get some!!
It sounds like a nice salve! I make one that is out of coconut oil for my baby’s bottom. I didn’t ever research to see if it was cloth diaper safe, but I’m guessing it is if you can use olive oil…? Anyhow, love Thirsties!
