My husband and I are expecting our first baby in April. We have decided to keep things a surprise for everyone in our family. We know we are having a daughter. Everyone thinks it is a boy. More than a few family members have made it clear that a boy is best and a girl would be a disappointment. This has hurt me a lot even though I do not think they are doing it to be hurtful. His mother “knew” I was having a boy BEFORE we were married and before I got pregnant. She only buys me boy things even though we’ve asked for gender neutral if she felt the need to buy something or nothing at all. People should keep in mind that even when said in a joking manner, it hurts. I don’t believe I am being overly sensitive. I am a human and am allowed to feel the way I do. I just hope others can keep this in mind.

Pregnant fantasy response (delivered with a mis of serene mothereart and sheer honest curiousity): “Ahh, it’s true, you’re looking quite fat today yourself. Do you feel as fat as you look?”
