I’m in a naturals group, the other day washing cloth in cold water came up. After looking all over on line, we got a bunch of different answers. Can you fill us in on some truth, or educate us. Thanks!!!
Have any of you used soap nuts to wash your diapers? Are they recommended or not? Do they really clean? I like the natural side of them but wonder if they are good/safe for cloth diapers. Thanks!
I had a question and a suggestion if you will….
1) what’s the best way to line dry diapers with gussets? I feel like hanging them straight down or folding them over the line could wear out the gussets, but maybe I’m just overthinking it!!
2) could you post a link to the various blog posts you’ve done regarding additives (ie. baking soda, vinegar, etc) I remember seeing a few posts with charts/tables regarding which products are safe to use them on (occasionally!) and which are not, but can’t find the posts on the blog or info on the website. Maybe a link under the “care” section or a link on the sidebar in the blog?? Might be helpful
Hi Shanna, Here is the link to the additives safe for use on our diapers: http://www.thirstiesbaby.com/blog/additives-safe-for-cloth-diapers/
You can do a search for a topic using a keyword in the search box. It is on the upper right hand corner of the page.
To line dry the covers, I would face the outer fabric toward the sun. You can hang over the line, or fasten with cloths pins from the top or bottom. I don’t think that hanging to dry will stretch the elastic, but it is best to keep out of direct sun as UV rays can damage components such as elastic, lamination, and Aplix.

Hi Chandra,
Soap nuts certainly won’t harm our products. They do work for some. I did try them myself, and didn’t feel like they cleaned well enough. We do have hard water here, so that may be why. Our other blog writer Elizabeth uses them and loves them! Here is her post: http://www.thirstiesbaby.com/blog/what-the-heck-are-soap-nuts/

Maybe how to find cloth diaper resources (physical ones) locally? I knew I wanted to CD for financial reasons, but was still so afraid until I could actually talk to people who had done it and see it demonstrated. After that I became an evangelist
I really appreciate the blog posts about mothering, particularly juggling working, cloth diapering, breastfeeding, cooking, cleaning, etc. If nothing else, it’s always good to get tips from others going through the same thing and to get that reassurance that it’s OK if you can’t do it all sometimes
I like to read a variety of topics – from cloth diapering to anything dealing with motherhood. Being a SAHM, I can always use some tips! Thanks for all you’ve done so far!!
How about articles on Elimination Communication and what are the best diapers to use while training?
i’d love tips for cloth diapering a newborn (for the first time) while diapering your toddler that is starting potty training!
I never see EcoSprout on lists for Cloth Diapering Detergents. I have been using it on my pocket diapers and recently got Thirsties Prefolds and Duo Wraps. It is safe to use, right?
Thanks!
Hello Kelly,
We do not have Eco Sprout on our list, as it contains oxygen bleach (Sodium Percarbonate or Sodium Carbonate Peroxyhydrate). Oxygen bleach does clean and remove stains wonderfully, however, our suppliers have warned against that ingredient for microfiber fleece, laminate, and hook and loop fasteners.

Oh goodness, you have your hands full! Prefolds and fitted diapers are my faves for newborns. Toddlers may do well with pull up trainers?

Hello Shauna,
I thought that I had responded to your post, but I don’t see it!
1) Line dry with the fabric side up, out of the full sun. The UV rays will do the damage to the laminate and elastic.
