First, what is an AIO diaper?
An AIO or All in One diaper means that the diaper is complete, or all in one. The absorbency will be sewn into a waterproof cover.
To use: slide the diaper under baby, and fasten. Voila!
These kinds of diapers are especially preferred by caregivers and new cloth diapering parents for their ease of use. These cloth diapers are the closest to disposables in convenience. Simply wash, put on baby, and repeat.
So why would you choose an AIO diaper over another type of diaper?
- Convenience
- Quick diaper changes
- No extra parts to worry about
- Ease of use
You may ask why we make different types of diapers if there are AIO diapers. AIO diapers work for many people, but that does not mean that it is the best option for you. They may also be a daytime option only, like our Duo AIO. Thirsties and other manufacturers carry different kinds of cloth diapers for the many different needs and desires of parents and their babies. Some may prefer convenience over cost, and some may prefer cost over convenience. Some may prefer natural fibers over man-made fibers, and vice-versa. You get where I am going here… You will ultimately have to decide what is right for you.
What are the main complaints when using AIO diapers?

- Long dry times (turning inside out may help)

I absolutely love your All in Ones! My favorite diaper that i own! They are so absobent that i use them for overnights as well as day. And don’t forget the adorable prints! I am in love and I know my daughter has no complaints!
I have a couple duo diapers and can’t wait to try the AIO. They cloth diaper store I get my fluff from was all out of the size 2.
I love our Duo AIO’s for day time….I wish there was an option to add extra absorbency though b/c lately our daughter has been leaking through them:( I think b/c she has been drinking a lot more water!
I love AIOs for the most part except when it comes to laundry! LOL I hate how long they take to dry!
After trying inserts, pockets and AIO’s, I’m a hughe fan of AIO’s! Feel like they are more absorbent.
I stocked up on duos and prefolds because I thought they’d be more economical and environmentally friendly. My twins aren’t born yet, but now I’m wondering if I should try some all-in-ones for the sake of convenience. I’m a beginner!
I don’t have any cloth diapers yet but I’m thinking AIOs are the way I want to go…..I think!
These are my favorite type of diaper…and I’ve tried them ALL! So easy, and so easy to teach others how to use them.
I’m loving the AIOs that I got with my newborn rental. I think that I would like to invest in some for my ‘permeant stash’ but I worry about the cons for long term use. Thanks for the article.

I love our AIOs! I am definitely going to try turning them inside-out next time I dry them. I originally tried the Duo Fab Fitted with a cover, then discovered the AIO. Honestly, I can’t understand why people pay more for the combination when the AIO includes everything, and is more trim.
We have several AIOs that I use regularly, especially on the go. I have one Thirsties DUO AIO that is definitely a go-to for the diaper bag. I think it dries fairly quickly outside on the line, but I do turn it inside out. My only improvement I would love to see on it would be natural fibers… Thirsties hemp is so great. Please consider adding it on the baby-bum-side of the AIO!
The Thirsties AIO is the first and only AIO I’ve tried. Love them!
I love my AIO! I use hemp inserts with them bc peanut is a heavy wetter.
I love these AIO’s! Turning them inside or really does help drying . I just wish they had the double gussets like the diapers do.
I have just discovered these aio and they are becoming my favorite.
