First baby coming in August. We have plans to use prefolds and covers primarily. It’s all so overwhelming!!

I have to say, it was mainly the cost savings which prompted me to research cloth diapers. Once I started researching, I got excited about all the other benefits of cloth diapering too! Not to mention how cool they are now!

I started with 2 doz. Gerber prefolds & 3 plastic pants 10 yrs ago. I still use the same 2 doz. prefolds on baby 3. They became a little thread barren so I cut the sides off & made insert because the middles are only stained. Baby 2 I bought 2 duo wraps & loved them. No more plastic pants. I use Fab Doublers for naps & going out. I have 2 Stay Dry inserts for nights & church nursery use. The only CD easier than prefolds & Duo Wraps are AIO which are to expensive for my budget. Prefolds & Duo wraps are a great way to start CDing.

I wish when I was starting I would have been brave enough to do this, but I have learned that it is really just as easy as pockets. WE are actually getting our stash ready for our new baby with covers and prefolds!

Prefolds are very easy. They’re the main style of diaper I started off with 9 years ago before pockets were around much. Even good quality Indian prefolds are easy to wash, soft, and cheap. I do wish I’d had Duo Wraps back then. They’re my new favorite cover for my 9 week old baby girl. And I love the smooth feel of the Duo prefolds.

Great post. Prefolds scare me, but we may go that route with our newborn in March. I started CDing with my now 2 year old when she was 4 months old and well big enough to go with pockets or AI2s. You may have changed my mind!
