I have put together some packages that will show you what you will need to start cloth diapering – including the accessories. When you are first starting off, it is difficult to know what you will need. The diapers in the packages are enough to last two days between washings.
The Thirsties Duo Wrap and Duo Hemp Prefold is a two piece diapering system. The Duo Wrap is a waterproof cover that can be adjusted at the waist and the rise. The Duo Hemp Prefold is a flat, absorbent diaper. You can either fold it and fasten it on baby with a Snappi or diaper pins and fasten the Duo Wrap over it; or simply trifold, lay into the Duo Wrap, and fasten on baby. You may fold a Hemp Insert into the prefold if additional absorbency is needed.
I have made two charts. One for size 1 and one for size 2. You will not buy both at the same time. The warranty for your diapers starts from the day of purchase, so only purchase the diapers that your baby can wear now.

Wow, this chart is really helpful. We’re just about to get started with cloth (due in a few days) and it’s nice to see how economical it can be. We’re going to have to stock some AIO/Pockets for daycare, but hope to have a second, cheaper stash for our home use. This chart is really helpful to see the bare minimum of what we need!
I really love how the duo wrap fits on my chubby baby with so much more room to grow as well. I’m interested in trying the wipe spray. Seems a lot easier than the method I’ve been doing with making the solution and soaking my wipes with it.

This is really helpful! I never really knew the prefold to cover ration that would be good to start out with.
At first I thought the 7 covers for size 1 was overkill, but with breastfed poop, I’d have to agree with the need for that many. The transition to size 2 happens around the time that solid food is getting well established. We’re almost there, and using fewer covers, on average.
Thank you so much for putting this together, and showing how inexpensive cloth diapering really can be! A lot of my friends say their biggest reason for choosing disposables is the start up cost of cloth diapering. This chart is super helpful, and I will definitely be passing it along!
Thanks for the cost breakdown. The BIGGEST drawback with cloth diapers is the initial investment, but it works out in the end.
I’ve never used a duo wrap because i feared they were too difficult but now am excited to try!

Good information to know! We started CD when our son was 15 months old and we have another one coming in a month. Trying to figure out how to start with newborns!
Love the duo wraps. Personally, I like to have 5-8 covers in size 2 as well b/c sometimes the messy diaper gets the cover too. It’s good to have a couple in the wash, a couple in the drawer, and another on the baby!

My daughter is 7 weeks amd im about to get her started on cloth diapers. I never did it with my son but im looking forward to it. i bought a lot of different used kinds to try them out. The prefolds just seem so big on such a little one. Any suggestions?
