I have put together some packages that will show you what you will need to start cloth diapering – including the accessories. When you are first starting off, it is difficult to know what you will need. The diapers in the packages are enough to last two days between washings.
Thirsties Duo AIO is an All-In-One diaper. This means that the waterproof layer and absorbency are sewn together. There is a tunnel inside the diaper, in which you may add a Hemp Insert if additional absorbency is needed.
I have made two charts. One for size 1 and one for size 2. You will not buy both at the same time. The warranty for your diapers starts from the day of purchase, so only purchase the diapers that your baby can wear now.

Please choose from the two charts depending on what size your baby is. Weight and age recommendations are general, so please take a look at our sizing chart for your baby’s measurements.

You had that other posting about the minimum.. but I like seeing this more realistic one. Imagine you can cloth diaper a kid for 2 years for about $800 (1 set of size1, 2 sets of s2). Add in some of the other minimums (diaper pail, wet bag, wipes, insets) and you are still well under $1000. Not to bad I’d say
We’re just moving to cloth (baby is 6 months and fits a size 2) so this is really helpful. Thanks! Now, if only I can hunt down a Scottish Storm AIO
Oh how I WISH I’d had something this basic and easy and simple when I started out. I’ve had to go the trial and error way, but discovering Thirsties has been awesome. I will say, I think 5 packs of wipes is probably too many–our wipe warmer stays full with just three packs.
Gosh, I wish something like this chart would have been available when I was first trying to figure out what to buy to get started CDing!
I’m bookmarking this in case we have another child. We bought a huge birth to potty training prefold and covers package for our daughter while I was pregnant. As it turns out that while it might have been inexpensive, it wasn’t the best for us since we don’t really like the covers and it turns out that we prefer aio and velcro on covers and diapers. I really like the Duo AIO we have now, and I think that the diaper I would prefer to build a stash around. I think we could use this as a basis for getting diapers to adapt our stash in the future.
That list is really helpful for a first time cloth diaperer. I wish I had that available to me when I started. I was so clueless and kind of had to pick up things as I figured out I need it
This is an awesome chart to get started with cloth diapering. The DUO AIO is the best AIO in the market in my opinion.
I love these diapers! I wish I would have tried them before I bought any others!
We’re transitioning from size 1 to size 2 now, and are trying the All-in-One out. We only had the Duo Diaper for our first stash and I loved them, but now that the AIO is available too I figured it was worth a try. So far I do think they’re pretty great, my only difficulty is the AIOs do take much longer to hang-dry (compared to the Duo) and so far I don’t have enough in the stash to circulate them through the wash/dry routine without relying on the dryer too. I would almost suggest more than 14 AIOs if that’s all someone is using, just due to the drying time,
I love the AIOs that we have! I wish they made up our entire stash, because they’re so easy and trim-fitting!
I decided to try your DUO AIO about a month ago… My baby girl is 3 months old, but a chunk and the size two fits her great! Since I bought one I now have about 8 and can’t wait to get more. They are cost effective and she’s never had a leak. I also love that you can put in a hemp doubler underneath the original soaker. Great diaper!
Thanks for the chart! It’s very helpful!
