Goodbye Colic. Hello Teething.

Right around four and a half months, Cooper’s tendency to  be colicky in the evenings slowly disappeared.  It certainly didn’t happen overnight.  And then right around five months, Cooper started teething.

And in case you didn’t know, there is nothing particularly joyful about a baby who is protesting the razor sharp teeth that are slowly cutting their way through his swollen gums. Not to mention the pressure of the teeth coming up through the jaw bone itself. Major headache. Don’t get me wrong–I don’t have any recollection of what teething feels like. I am just guessing based on the anguished look on my son’s face as he drools continuously and tries to shove his whole fist in his mouth to block the pain. Or screams and thrashes as he tries to nurse, only to find that even his favorite way of being soothed hurts too. Talk about adding insult to … Read More

Cloth Diaper Care: Preserving Lamination

With the right wash routine and detergent, your Thirsties products will  last  through one child, and often times on to the next.  Below are some ways to help preserve the lamination and other components on your diapers and covers:

Follow the manufactures’ Care and Use instructions.

We recommend a warm prewash, followed by a hot wash, warm rinse, and another warm rinse. If you have an HE machine, do not use the sanitize cycle for anything with elastic, lamination, or hook and loop fasteners.

For detailed care instructions please visit:  http://www.thirstiesbaby.com/customer-center/care-use/

Use a cloth diaper safe detergent without harmful additives.

Detergent ingredients to avoid include pure soaps, chemical softeners, artificial brighteners, fragrances, dyes, Borax, and bleach.

Do not use additives along with your detergent unless otherwise recommended by Thirsties. Additives may be harsh or offset the PH balance of the wash water.

Cooper Graduates to His Size Twos

Cooper is now seven months old and growing like a weed.  While his size ones still fit him, they’re getting small enough that I thought the size two Thirsties might work just as well. He’s a long skinny baby so it wasn’t a matter of the diapers getting too snug, but rather they seemed to be sitting a bit low on his belly.  This past weekend, I washed and packed up my size ones for the last time.  I have a pregnant friend who is eager to inherit them.

When the box of new diapers came, I had just as much fun going through it as I did going my first box of cloth diapers.  The Duo Fab Fitteds are so soft I think maybe Thirsties should start making baby blanket or teddy bears out of the fabric!  They are so soft and cuddly, which is one of the many … Read More
